If you love spending time outdoors but want a little more comfort, privacy, and protection, a screen enclosure could be the perfect addition to your home. Screen enclosures allow you to enjoy your patio or outdoor living area while creating a more comfortable and functional space for relaxing and entertaining. At S&S Design Build , we specialize in designing and building custom outdoor living spaces throughout Middle Tennessee. Here are five benefits of adding a screen enclosure to your home. 1. Create an Enhanced Outdoor Living Space A screen enclosure can transform an ordinary patio into an inviting outdoor living area. Whether you want a place to enjoy your morning coffee, entertain friends and family, or simply relax after a long day, a screened-in space gives you another area to enjoy at home. Screen enclosures can also be combined with a patio cover, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, comfortable furniture, or other outdoor features to create a space designed around the way you live. 2. Enjoy More Privacy Adding screens can provide additional privacy while you're enjoying your backyard. Instead of feeling completely exposed to neighboring properties, a screened-in porch or patio creates a more enclosed and comfortable environment. With the right design, your outdoor space can feel like a private extension of your home. 3. Add Functionality to Your Home One of the biggest benefits of a screen enclosure is simply being able to use your outdoor space more often. A covered and screened-in patio can provide a comfortable place to sit, dine, entertain, or enjoy the outdoors while keeping the space separated from many of the common nuisances associated with an open patio. For homeowners who already have an existing patio or deck, a screen enclosure can be a great way to get more use out of the space they already have. 4. Create a More Comfortable Outdoor Environment A screen enclosure provides a transition between your indoor and outdoor living areas. When paired with a quality patio cover, it can create a shaded and comfortable place to spend time outside. For homeowners looking for even more flexibility, EZ Breeze windows can turn a screened area into a versatile three-season room. The windows allow you to enjoy fresh air when the weather is nice while giving you the option to close the space when conditions change. 5. Low-Maintenance Outdoor Enjoyment Homeowners want outdoor spaces that are beautiful without requiring constant maintenance. A properly designed screen enclosure can provide a clean, finished appearance while allowing you to enjoy your patio without the upkeep associated with some other outdoor improvements. From simple screened patios to fully customized outdoor living spaces, the design can be tailored to your home and how you want to use it. Build an Outdoor Space You'll Love A screen enclosure can do much more than simply add screens around your patio. It can create a comfortable, functional outdoor living area that gives you another place to enjoy your home. At S&S Design Build , we specialize in creating custom outdoor spaces, including: Screen enclosures Patio covers S unroom Motorized shades Custom decks Paver patios Outdoor fireplaces Concrete patios And more If you're considering a screen enclosure or outdoor living project in Nashville and Middle Tennessee , we'd love to help bring your ideas to life.

At S&S Design Build, LLC, we love transforming outdated and underused outdoor spaces into areas that homeowners can enjoy for years to come. This recent project is a great example of how replacing an aging deck can completely change the look, functionality, and usability of a backyard. A Fresh Start for an Aging Deck The existing deck had seen better days. It was weathered, dated, and no longer provided the clean, inviting outdoor space the homeowners wanted. Instead of simply repairing the old deck, we removed the existing structure and created a brand-new concrete patio pad with a beautiful brush finish , giving the space a clean and durable foundation for outdoor entertaining. A Beautiful Concrete Patio Transformation The new concrete patio provides a significant upgrade in both appearance and functionality. The brush-finished concrete surface adds subtle texture while creating a practical, low-maintenance outdoor surface. We also incorporated steps and a new railing , creating a safe and finished transition from the elevated portion of the home down to the new patio area. The result is a simple but dramatic transformation—from a rundown deck to a clean, welcoming patio that gives the homeowners a comfortable place to enjoy their backyard. Built for Enjoying the Outdoors The new patio creates the perfect space for outdoor dining, morning coffee, entertaining guests, or simply relaxing outside. The homeowners can now take advantage of their backyard without dealing with the maintenance and appearance issues that came with the old deck. At S&S Design Build, LLC , we can help you reimagine your outdoor space, whether you're looking to replace an aging deck, install a new concrete patio, add steps and railings, or create a complete outdoor living area. Creating a Backyard That Feels Like Home Every space tells a story—and some begin the moment you step outside. What was once a simple backyard has been thoughtfully transformed into a warm, inviting retreat designed for everyday living. As the sun sets, soft string lights cast a gentle glow overhead while the fire feature becomes a natural gathering place. It’s the kind of space that draws people in, encouraging you to slow down, settle in, and stay a little longer. This project beautifully blends comfort and function. The covered patio offers a shaded escape during the day. Cozy seating arrangements create intimate pockets for conversation, and the surrounding landscaping adds depth, texture, and a sense of calm that ties everything together. But what truly brings a space like this to life isn’t just the structure—it’s the people who use it. The personal touches, from furniture choices to layout, reflect a lifestyle. It becomes more than a backyard; it becomes a place where morning coffee tastes better, where laughter carries a little further, and where memories are made season after season. That’s what great outdoor design is all about: creating spaces that feel natural, lived-in, and uniquely yours. Ready to Create Your Own Retreat? Decking can transform your outdoor living space, providing a comfortable & inviting area to entertain, relax, & enjoy the great outdoors. When it comes to choosing the materials that define your deck, PVC decking stands out as a contemporary, low-maintenance alternative to traditional wood. But is it the right choice for your home? Today we’ll be examining the pros & cons of PVC in decking, allowing you to make an informed decision about this important home improvement. Pros of PVC Decking: Durability Beyond Belief: Unlike wood, PVC is immune to the downsides of moisture exposure such as rot & decay. It's also resistant to insect damage & impact, ensuring that your deck can stand up to the outdoors with minimal wear & tear. The Indelible Elegance of No-Fade Decks: PVC decking resists fading, even under the harshest UV rays & extreme weather conditions. This means that the vibrant color you choose for your deck will remain intact for years to come, offering an extended visual appeal that's hard to match. Cleaning Your Deck Is a Breeze: Maintaining a PVC deck is as simple as giving it a good rinse with a garden hose. Stubborn stains & spills are easily removed with the occasional use of a mild detergent & soft brush, making PVC an ideal choice for those who don't want to spend hours each season on tiresome maintenance. The Rainbow of PVC Possibilities: PVC decking offers an extensive palette of colors & styles to suit any design aesthetic. PVC can be manufactured to nearly any shade or pattern, allowing you to achieve a deck that is as unique as it is beautiful. Cons of PVC Decking: The Premium Price Tag: The initial cost of PVC decking can be significantly higher, which can be discouraging for some homeowners. However, it's essential to balance this cost against the long-term savings on maintenance & repairs that PVC provides. Slippery When Wet: PVC can have a higher slip factor than wood, making it a critical factor to consider, especially if your deck is often used by children or the elderly, or if you live in a region prone to rainfall. However, there are solutions available such as non-slip strips or coatings that can mitigate this concern, so it shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Remember, the decision to build a deck is a personal one, shaped by your lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, & budget. When considering PVC decking, it's all about balance. If you're looking for a deck that will provide years of enjoyment with minimal upkeep, PVC might be your ideal material. It's crucial to conduct thorough research, consult with professionals, & weigh the long-term implications to ensure you make the best decision for your home & family.
